Well, yeah...but where did you get the idea he says he can go to hell and rescue anybody? What he is saying is he wants to go where hell is on the streets and rescue those who are caught in that life of hell on earth. He came out of a drug background and whatever else goes along with that. Am just a granny who never experienced this kind of life.

No man is perfect, but if a Catholic Priest walked out to do a sermon with body piercings, I would get up and walk out of that Church and never return so long as he was the Pastor there. Some say "it's not the man, but the message that's important" and I would answer that Satan quotes scripture too, yet would we trust him when he does it? My native Greek friend says petra means "rock".
If you are saying that Jesus is supposed to be the rock, then you are saying that Jesus called himself a "pebble" to and not a rock, because the word "petros/petrus" didn't exist in Koine Greek (the language of the New Testament).
Jesus called Simon "Cephas" which means "rock".
If He wanted to call Simon "pebble", He would've called Him "Kevna", which is the word for pebble and not "Cephas" as He is called by Jesus and by the Apostles and even by Paul.
Simon is called "rock" (Cephas) by Jesus and by The Apostles and by Paul and by The Word of God.
Even if you don't want to accept it.
As for the Greek word for pebble?
It never existed in 1st Century Greek. That was Koine Greek. There is no word for "pebble" in Koine Greek...only "rock".

The Bible teaches us that the foundation of The Church are The Apostles and The Prophets in Eph 2:20 "And so you may build upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, and he is the cornerstone of the building, Jesus Christ himself." Now, anybody that knows anything about building terminology (as Jesus would've since He himself was literally a builder...a Carpenter who knew how to build a building literally) knows that buildings (households) are built upon rock foundations... ...a cornerstone is laid as the beginning of the foundation and it is the reference point from which all the other rocks are layed them following the pattern layed by the cornerstone (also called the capstone because it is on top of the foundation while the foundation is buried under the soil... ...and how appropriate that men who are created from soil are buried "in" soil while Jesus is the visible cornerstone, the obvious one for all to see while the Apostles & Prophets are not visible). Ok, so, in Matthew 16:18, Jesus called Simon a "rock" that He would build His Church upon. Ephesians tells us that The Church is built upon The Apostles & Prophets. Now, Matthew 7 (which comes before Matthew 16 & Ephesians) is prophecy about those who built their churces upon men (sand aka soil) and those who built thier Church upon "rock" (in Greek, Peter). It warns us about churches built by men and stresses how The Church that was built upon rock (Cephas aka Peter) stand the test of time and the test of the spirits (which in Jewish writing is represented by wind or water). It talks about how the house (church) built by men collapsed and how The Church built upon rock (Peter) stood strong. Now, before you read the scripture, keep in mind the following historical fact: Which Church has existed since the Apostolic Age and is still in existance and can be traced back historically to that time and which church was attempted to be created by human beings (Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, etc...) but ended up collapsing into 34,000+ different denominations like the house built upon sand/soil (that which men are made of)... Matthew 7: 24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (The Church built upon Kephas aka Peter) 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Because that church was founded upon men (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, etc...), it failed and couldn't maintain it's unity. ________________________________________________________________________________________ So, we see that Simon is truly The Rock that Jesus founded His Church upon as He literally said He would (and which was confirmed in John 21 when Jesus told Peter to be the be the shepherd to His flock). We see that Jesus is the capstone (some say cornerstone) which makes all the sense in the world since it is the most important part of the structure as it ties in all the foundation and the house is based and built upon it's guidance. We see that Jesus was calling Simon the first rock of the foundation of The Church He would go on to build. We see that Jesus is where He is supposed to be..the visible cap/cornerstone and The Apostles and Prophets don't share in His glory, but are buried in soil the way a foundation of a house is. Saint Cephas...the foundation upon whom Jesus said He would build His Church upon. |
