I put up an Avatar of Jesus' image (as portrayed by Robert Powell) and I look at what words I've written next to that face and the two just don't go together.
I'm hoping now that this image next to my name on my posts will work to keep me mindful of what it is that I'm trying to accomplish with this forum.
Imagery...it is real people. While ideally, we should be able to be Christlike without any imagery, the sad truth is that it helps. Here's a test folks. Run off a bunch of curse words. Now, pick up your Bible or stare a a picture of Jesus and run off the same bunch of curse words.
If you do this, was there any difference when you did it with The Bible or while staring at an image of Jesus?
I have to act like that image of Jesus is around me all of the time (even if there are no images of Him). It's not about relying on the image, it's about using the image(s) to build my strength up to counter all of the worldly images we are bombarded with every minute of every day that we walk out of our homes, when we turn on a TV, when we cuise the internet....Why not images of Jesus?

I do the same. I always look to the Blessed Virgin and Christ for perseverance in times of temptation.
