Just a quick story about tongues...
When I was in Istanbul, I was with 2 of my friends who are protestant. Both of them love the Lord very much, and esp. one of them was very bold with her faith. Anyway, we we at a public park and we were walking and praying for the tourists and Turks (most of them Muslim) and she starting praying in tongues while we "prayer walked" and I don't speak Arabic, but what she was praying sure sounded like Arabic and you should have seen the look on this guy's face who was walking in front of us (he was a tourist and looked arab). The look on his face would give you chills if you could have seen him, I'm sure he understood every single word she was saying and I'm sure he was amazed that this blond haired girl spoke perfect arabic and who knows what the Lord spoke to him through that. And who knows where that Guy was from? We saw many tourists from Saudi Arabia there.

Cepha, then why did St. Paul say "human or angelic tongues?" Does anyone speak Angel? I do think that there is an interpretation for tongues, but an interpretation is only required if the gift of tongues is used in front of others. In private, you might not know for sure what you are praying. To speak with an angelic tongue is to speak in a bolsterous and strong voice. If you notice in The Bible. there are instances where angels talk where it's said that they spoke and it was like thunder. Also, The Bible says that if a person is talking in a foreign tongue, they don't need an interpretor because they know what they are saying. You're correct in saying that it is for the benefit of those who don't know what they are saying that are present. Remember, when that gift was given out, men of different nations didn't understand those who had it in gibberish (unless there is a country called "Gibber" somewhere! LOL!). Also, the only time that "gibberish" was ever given to man was when man tried to create The Tower Of Babel. And that was used to confuse men. There was no known language for men to communicate in. There isn't any "magical" language. The gift of tongues is the ability for an evangelizer to pick up a native language easier in order for them to evangelize. It's a reasonable and citeable gift. It's all within that passage of the gift of tongues, but some don't accept the entire passage as it is written and exclude the mention of "foreign" language in the passage itself.

Take this example (I'm sure she believes she's "in" the spirit, but look at how her fellow worshippers walk away from her laughing and how they look at her):

Two possesions.
Both almost identical in practices.
Scary.
But the scariest part is that the so-called "Christian" possesion ritual came "from" an African descendant who started the Pentecostal church.
It is so evident to anyone who's willing to accept that Christians "can" be misled.
Remember, their founder (William Joseph Seymour) was born of African "slaves".
Coincidence?
