Hopefully this will post....the board keeps looping back when I post.
We believe that although Christianity was being practiced, the Church gradually fell away. Priesthood authority was lost and things were gradually changed or altered. There arose many denominations, each changing things to suit differing beliefs.
We believe that a restoration was needed to bring back the priesthood authority and restore things that were lost.
I believe that the rock mentioned in Matthew was the rock of revelation and the communication between God and man. This has never stopped. We all have the privilege of praying and knowing that we will receive an answer.

I really hope that I'm back...my computer or my internet connection was really being crazy. I would try to post and just get a little part of the main screen. It would happen on many sites, but now everything seems to be working.

Hi lorraine; I really respect the zeal and sincerity of the LDS church.
But my husband pointed out with regards to the LDS notion of a "Great Apostasy" that in effect the LDS is saying that Jesus Christ was not able to teach his Apostles how to train others to keep the faith, but somehow after over 150 years, Joseph Smith has been able to teach his Apostles and pass down the LDS faith without a "Great Apostasy". This very much implies that the LDS believes that Joseph Smith was greater than Jesus Christ. And that the Apostles of Joseph Smith were better than Jesus' Apostles at transmitting the Faith. It implies that Jesus failed in building the Church, but Joseph Smith succeeded.
The LDS arguement of a "Great Apostasy" might work on Protestants, but you're going to have to come up with something else for Catholics.
For us, the gates of Hell have still not prevailed!
