Yielding our understanding to The Scriptures and not trying to bend The Scriptures to the limits of our understanding.

Hmmm....I would say that yielding our understanding to the scriptures is a good thing...and that we shouldn't try to bend them. I've seem that to many times and it becomes ridiculous. I would only say that we shouldn't limit ourselves to only the Scriptures.
Of course being Catholic that means, Church, Bible Magisterium all under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Well, if a Christian truly bends their mind to the Scripture, then by default, it would lead them to The Church.
All they'd have to do is to follow Jesus' instructions and His saying that whoever refuses to accept The Apostles' teachings, refuses no only Him, but God also.
Fact is, we're supposed to follow The Apostles as well as Christ. Some people believe that we should only follow Jesus and no one else, but that very belief is not only "not" taught by Jesus ever, it is refutiated by His own words.
Scripture itself proves that The Apostle's continued what Jesus taught them...they themselves chose their successors (as Jesus chose His own).
Everything Catholicism pracitices comes "from" The Holy Bible.

Yes, but when I first read the Bible, I totally misunderstood a lot of stuff. Plus I took it ULTRA literally, like "if your right hand causes you to sin..." Don't worry, I didn't do it though.

hehe,
Hey , talk about bending the scriptures....on the 'other' website, several people seem to believe that the Apostles and Jesus drank only grape juice. Reminds me of.....
" Life once wrecked all her dream ships on the sharp rocks of reality; but in the sunny, fantasy isles of insanity, all her barkentines race into port with canvas billowing and winds singing through the masts." -Dale Carnegie

Well I know that Cepha, and up until a few days ago I thought most of the world knew that.
Some people that I was talking to truly thought that ANY amount of alcohol was wicked. I don't know how they make chocolate chip cookies without vanilla extract (which is like 98% alcohol) ANd they think Catholics are legalistic? NOT

NOT The NT in one passage literally encourages us to drink a little wine with our meals as it is good. Go figure. I bet those that believe alcohol is wicked probably refer to themselves as "bible believers"...they believe, except that part of the NT and anything else "we" do.

yeah, and they say the wine at Cana was just grape juice, the wine at the Lord's Supper was grape juice, the wine that was supposed to help Timothy's stomach was grape juice.
My Dad has a PhD in History, I should tell him this so he can get a good laugh. (o yeah and he's Italian too)
Yeah, grape juice really helps a stomach ache! You know the reason St. Paul told Timothy to "stop drinking only water and use a little wine because of your stomach problems" ? It's because the water was not sent to a Water Treatment Facility and pumped with a bunch of Chlorine to kill off all the Bacteria which was probably causing Timothy all the stomach problems. Grape juice would have actually made the bacteria multiply to a very dangerous level. Alcoholic Wine on the other hand, either alone or mixed with water, would have killed off all the bacteria making it a very safe alternative to water and eventually bring an end to all of Timothy's stomach problems.
There were many cultures that drank wine diluted with water or just straight wine and had they not, they would not have lived very long. Some cultures only gave diluted wine to children and pregnant women.
These Americans are so clueless about the appropriate use of alcohol, so they want to change the history books to bind everyone with their legalism. If you don't want to drink, then dont people!

It's consistant with their "wrongness". The Bible says "wine". Period. Like it says "You are Rock and upon this Rock I will build My Church." in Matt 16. It's amazing how The Bible could say something and some so-called Christians completely deny it and inject their own words there.
