I understand this is an older thread. I am newer here and wanted to put my 2 cents worth in.
The Douay-Rheims was produced prior to the KJV. For anyones information the KVJ origionally included all the book you now find in the Catholic Bibles.
I use the Douay-Rheims Holy Bible. This was translated from the Vulgate and compared with the Hebrew, Greek and other editions in diverse languages. The OLD TESTAMENT was first published in English in 1609 AD. The NEW TESTAMENT was published in 1582 AD.
The Vulgate is the best but since it is not in English only those with extensive and not limited Ecelastical Latin reading and comprehensive abilities. So my and my families limited translative abilities have mostly eliminted the origional Latin Vulgate.
