I got a brainstorm from arguing with an Anti-Catholic! It seems that in their obsession with proving Catholicism wrong, they've mastered their Anti-Catholicism Doctrines, while ignoring The Teachings of Christ.
But it didn't happen "just" once, it happened every single time I would ask them. Each one was completely and totally ignorant of Jesus' teachings, yet boasted of their superior & authentic Christianity.
When questioned about a specific Teaching of Christ, they couldn't answer the question.
So, I found a great site that lists Jesus' teachings. It's a Protestant site & Protestants are masters at cataloging events in The Bible. I commend them for this. They have excellent study aids.
Anyway, here is the site along with a listing of their teachings. This would make for an excellent resource for any of us.

Close. There are 8. You get points for at least trying and anyway, this wouldn't apply to you because you're not an Anti-Catholic. But it shows your confidence that you even answered the question. Anti-Catholics don't even try. 1. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 2. Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land. 3. Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. 4. Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. 5. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 6. Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. 7. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 8. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Yep. Sometimes I'll ask them about one of Jesus' teachings like the one on Christians judging how other Christians serve Him. It's no surprise that their Pastors don't teach them that one.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
you guys don't include this one as a beatitude?

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. you guys don't include this one as a beatitude? Ain't that #8? "8. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Is that verse listed as one of the Beatitudes with your bible? I got those beatitudes from a Protestant site actually.

Oh! I see, some Christians add that verse to Jesus' list as separate from the 8th.
Matthew 5 1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
What you count as an extra beatitude is already stated in #8. This verse Jesus was telling to those whom He was speaking to as a summation. The group of 8 are separated from what you call the 9th by whom Jesus was addressing. Did you notice that? That's why traditional Christianity only concludes that there are 8 Beatitudes.
I read that some believe there are actually 10 Beatitudes.
The 9th one is considered an extension of the 8th targeted towards The Apostles because they would be persecuted for Christ's sake...
