Awww how cute. It really hit me that I was "home" when I began to meditate on the image of the crucifix. When I first became a Christian it was because of a vision that I saw of Jesus on the cross, and He was looking down at me. When I was a protestant, I was taught not to wear a crucifix, and that it was wrong that the Catholics have a crucifix in front of the Church! But a few months ago, during the Mass, I saw a very short (less than a minute) vision of Jesus on the cross, but this time it was like I was looking down at Him and He was looking up at me. I thought it was strange at first, but the next day I went to Mass again with my kids at a different Church in my town. For the homily, the priest had a painting that an assistant took around and showed everyone. Imagine my shock when I saw that the painting was by Salvador Dali, called "Gala's Christ". It is a surrealist portrait of Jesus on the cross and it is sort of levitating and the angle is such that when you are standing and looking at it, you feel as though you are looking down upon Him. Craziness! And his homily was about how that painting combined the crucifixion and the resurrection and how you cannot separate the two. Wow, so now at almost every Mass, I stare up at the crucifix, remembering my vision that brought me to the Lord and thanking Him that this same vision brings me to His Church. 1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. 4My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.
