I Heart Coach Stewart!!
“I know who I am. I’m very secure,” Stewart said. “I hope I remain the same guy. I’ve got a nice bride at home who’s going to make sure I don’t crow too much. I got a 13-year-old son who keeps me in line and friends in the business that won’t let me forget who I am. I sleep well. I’m not going to change.”
I said it in January, when Stewart quickly stepped in line for the opening left by Rodriguez bolting for Michigan and I’ll say it again today as the Stewart Era begins.
It’s that kind of stuff that plays well here in our beautiful mountains. West Virginia is a state of hard-working, basically honest folks who don’t get caught up in pretentiousness or oversized egos. Stew isn’t being fake. The statement above is who the man is, for better or for worse.
Makes it easy to root for a guy like that.
Given the fact that West Virginia returns a plethora of offensive talent, the Mountaineers should contend for the Big East title again, with Pitt and South Florida dotting the schedule in late November and early December.
And if that happens, Stewart just might be canonized.
