How is the tradition of Iconography different in the Orthodox and Catholic Churches?
I hope to soon be trained to be an Iconographer.

How is the tradition of Iconography different in the Orthodox and Catholic Churches? I hope to soon be trained to be an Iconographer. teresa I am sorry, but I can not help you in this regard since I do not know the tradition of Icons within the Catholic Churches. It seems that Iconography is seen mostly in the Eastern tradition of the Catholic Church, while the Western Rite has declined in it's use of Icons, replacing them with Statues. Since the Eastern Rite of the Catholic Church has kept mostly the same liturgy, practice, etc of The Orthodox Church, my humble opinion is that there is little or no difference in the Iconography, but then again, this is my humble opinion. It will be best if you, or anyone on this site, can tell me, or give me a link, about the Iconography of The Catholic Church. It will then give me some ideas and I will be able to compare it with our tradition. Blessings, Ramon P.S, I think is great that your are going to be train to be Iconographer.

A big, big oops happened this past Sunday at my husband's Church (Greek Orthodox).
THis Sunday was the Sunday of Orthodoxy which marks the triumph of the iconodules over the iconoclasts. So, there was a procession in the Church with lots of kids and a few adults, all holding an Icon. But, during the procession, one of the girls dropped her icon. Then, when all the kids were lined up in front of the Church, and there was a prayer about the whole thing, another older boy dropped his icon in front of the whole Church! (thankfully, it is a small Church and no one seemed too upset by it. I think the priest just tried to pretend that he didn't see it happen.)
Considering it was children that dropped them, I'm sure the saints were just laughing at the whole thing.
