Anyone want to share their favorite icon? This is one of my favorites. It's from the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul(Constantinople) It is a Byzantine Mosaic that was plastered over at the command of Mehmet II when he conquered the city in 1453. Later, it was carefully uncovered. It was made around 1261 AD.

And this one's my favourite. In Catholic and Orthodox churches almost every picture I see of Jesus portrays Jesus as a baby with Mary. The emphasis is on Mary rather than Jesus and that is wrong.

And this one's my favourite. In Catholic and Orthodox churches almost every picture I see of Jesus portrays Jesus as a baby with Mary. The emphasis is on Mary rather than Jesus and that is wrong. Not true; actually the sheer fact that the Blessed Virgin Mary is almost always depicted with Christ to show and remind us that she will always point us and lead us to our Lord Jesus; hence the "Hail Mary" is quite Christocentric: "Hail Mary, the LORD is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women; and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb: JESUS..." So one can see that we both venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary and surpremely honour our Lord Christ always. Christ is pleased that we should choose the shortest venue to himself and that is by way of recommending ourselves and asking the prayers of his Blessed Mother Mary.
