Why did The Church Fathers call The Catholic Church in Rome
The One True Church with the authority of Saint Peter? According to scripture Peter was the leader of the Jewish Church while Paul was the Apostle to the Gentiles. Galatians 2
7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. |

According to the Scriptures, Peter was Paul's leader as Paul didn't begin his ministry until he "tarried" with Peter first. Once Peter squared him away, it was then that he was allowed to minister. Also, don't forget that it was Peter who God called to be the minister to The Gentiles (not Paul). Paul was told to minister to the Gentiles by Peter (most likely because Paul was a Roman Citizen who could travel the Gentile areas of The Roman Empire without restriction and who had the protections that non-Citizens [aka most of the Jews] didn't have). Not only that, only Peter was chosen to nurture Jesus' Flock in John 21 (no other Apostle was chosen by Jesus to be the Shepherd when Jesus left them...only Peter). Ok, now that that's established...back to " why" the Church Fathers only called The Church in Rome The Catholic Church and the only true church...why? |
