Cepha, i would have called if it were a white guy my age.. So why did you call the cops for an older black man and you wouldn't call the cops for and older white man? What's the difference? I would and i have before! I had a white 40ish man knocking on my door at 9pm at night...would not stop, i was scared and so i called the sherrifs. I called the law on some kids my age and younger who wrecked their suv in the ditch across from my driveway cause for one, they looked trashy he was in his boxer shorts and she was barely wearing anything at all. Figured they were messed up on drugs. And was rightfully so! It is my and my neighbors job to keep our streets clean of bs.

Marcie, first of all, I didn't know it was dark and you had your son with you. I would have gone inside as well under those circumstances, probably not called the cops right away, but would have waited to see what happened. I think she should have at least told him to stay where he was and to speak his mind first. He might have just wanted to explain what happened. But, ultimately, I believe she did the right thing in being "overprotective". If we share that we don't think she should smoke, we should'nt use scripture to brow-beat her. I would tell her out of love for her and concern for her health, but not use the Bible to justify telling her. The Bible does not forbid smoking anyway. Besides, smoking is an addiction. It's easy for people who don't smoke to judge the situation. Once you're hooked, you're hooked. I have that addiction with Pepsi. No matter how bad it is for me, I can't stop drinking it. It has nothing to do with weakness, but with pure chemical addiction. I understand everybody's concern, but we shouldn't pile up on her about it. It's hard to quit smoking. My mother is dieing from smoking. She still can't quit.

That's not what I got from her post. The black guy tried to use the excuse when talking to the police that the only reason she called the police was because he is black. Re-read the post. He said she called the cops because he was black. She said that he got arrested because he was black? But she never said that he himself said that. That's what I don't get from the statement. First she wrote: Then she wrote:The black man never mentioned that he was arrested for being of color, only that she called the police because of his color. See?

Steven, I understand addiction. I try to use the Bible a lot of times so it's not just something I'm saying, but something God wants. What He wants is more important than what I want.

Emily, are you addicted to anything? Have you ever been? Most people have. Nearly everyone that is addicted to something harmful knows that it is bad for them, but it is difficult to stop (hence the term "addiction") The last thing people need is to be told how bad they are because of it. If you have encouraging words like "I know someone that smoked for 10 years and they quit. I'm sure you could quit too" etc. that would be a lot better than just telling them how bad they are and trying to "Bible Brow beat" them, if you know what I mean. I'm addicted to caffeine. I'm not proud of it, but I know I shouldn't be. There is nothing in the Bible that says "don't drink caffeine", but I know that I shouldn't be addicted to it. But no one has to tell me that. I also need to exercise much much more. I guess I get addicted to laziness. I know that lack of exercise is just as harmful to my body as smoking was when I used to smoke as a teenager. But if someone started telling me I was lazy, it really wouldn't help, it would just make me depressed.

Yes, Heather, I am working on a few addictions. It's not good to be addicted to anything. I wasn't tryng to beat her down. I just try to use God's words instead of my own, since my own don't realy matter.
