Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, and freed the slaves. The Republicans enacted the laws that (on paper) gave Blacks citizenship, voting rights, and reconstructed a destroyed Confederacy It was Republicans that supported Lyndon Johnson's Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1966! Not the Dem's It was State and Local Democrats that instituted "Jim Crow" laws to keep Blacks as Sharecroppers and denied them voting rights with literacy tests between 1865 and 1968!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those who owned slaves: George Washington; Thomas Jefferson; James Madison; James Monroe; Andrew Jackson; John Tyler; James K. Polk; Zachary Taylor; Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant, Martin Van Buren and William Harrison...all democrats.

For me, I don't know how to compare the dems and reps from over 150 years ago with the parties today.. They have both changed and evolved so much through the years.

Yeah, its probably better for everyone to focus on the present and the future. None of us can change the past, we can only hope for a better future.

Ok, let's stick to the present then! Who had racist posters at their rallies during the Presidential Campaign and at the TeaBagger Parties? LOL! (Hint: It's not the Democrats!) How many racist posters where there against John McCain during the Democratic rallies? LOL!

For me, I don't know how to compare the dems and reps from over 150 years ago with the parties today.. They have both changed and evolved so much through the years. Back then, the overwhelming majority of white people were racists! LOL! Some even broke away and secceded from our great country to try to build their own country! Traitorous wreches! That's why we whooped them the way they whooped African Americans and squared them away real quick! Long live America! Death to the traitors! LOL!

I never said that! LOL! And...my "ancestors" weren't here during that horrible period of slavery. My people came from Spain directly to Puerto Rico in the late 1800's or early 1900's! By the time we had gotten here, The Great Union Army had defeated those evil Confederates and took the country back! And me? I was born in New York!

LOL! My state (west virginia--supposedly wew are a bunch of uneducated inbred hilbillies) seceded from virginia in 1863 after they tried to drag us away from our homeland(USA). I hope my ancestors contributed to the downfall of the rebels. All exccept my italian and german ancestors--they were still in europe.
