Why do Anti-Catholics focus on verses and not passages? They seem to attach themselves to a verse or sometimes even worse...just a fragment of a verse then latch on to that. They take it out of context and create a new belief out of it totally unrelated to the passage from which it was taken. Maybe this should be in the "dumbing down Jesus" thread? No, it's another example of whittling down the word of God. Let's see if any return to respond to this...I know their lurking!

What bothers me is when they arbitrailily decide which verses are literal and which are 'spiritual'.

Dude.....that is called proof-texting! LOL! I agree with Heather. Protestants usually believe that Scriptures must be taking literally until common sense tell you otherwise, then it is ok to take it spiritually. Cute concept, but it is a method proposed by Protestant preachers, not something Scripture saids. What's funny is that many Protestants interpret Jesus words at the Mysterical Supper ("This is my body.....This is my blood") spiritually even though Christians from the 1st-11th centuries understand his words literally! Another cute concept proposed by Watchman and other Protestants is that Scriptures interpret Scriptures! LOL! We can certainty see the loopholes there In IC.XC, Ramon

A example of proof-texting. Christ said "Call no man on Earth Father". Protestants immediately protest against the Catholic and Orthodox practice of calling there Priests "Father". They have not only ignore the context of the Scripture but have also ignore other Scriptues, for example when the Holy Apostles called specfic men (lets say Abraham) "Father", denoting a spiritual Father!
Now...these same Protestants will tell its ok to call your own dad "Father". LOL! Do anyone here see a problem with this? They take the text literally only when it suits there needs.......
Sometimes the answers I get from Protestants are unbelievable! You can tell that they have not pick up a Bible and study it! I even had a Protestant that told me that the word "Bishop" is unscriptural! LOL! Another Protestant told me that the Holy Spirit was Jesus' mother, and not the Virgin Mary!

In IC.XC, Ramon Know what I've noticed? Almost all of their doctrinal beliefs are followed up with "but...". Call no man father, but, you father is ok to call father? Of coure, the only reason they are against calling any man a father is because we call Priests "father". If we didn't, I guarantee you they'd have no problem with it. Like when they say that the word "pope" is not in The Bible. When I point out that the word pope is Greek for father, then all of a sudden, it doesn't matter what language the NT was written in! LOL! Everytime they see the word father in The Bible, had they been reading it in the actual Greek, it would say pope. Then, I get cursed out! LOL!

In IC.XC, Ramon You're going to lovvvvve this one! LOL! I asked for proof that Jesus died for all future sins and I got Luke 1 with Mary saying all generations will call her blessed. Now, he interpreted it as saying "in the future, all generations will be called blessed because Jesus Christ died for their sins". I KID YOU NOT RAMON! This is what he said that line said! LOL! My stomach was hurting I was laughing so hard! LOL! I told him "No, that literally says all generations will call Mary blessed." Then, I got called an idiot among other things. ;D

That was funny Steven! You really do have a ball with talking to some Protestants. When I had a discussion with a Protestant about calling Priests Father, I told him about how the Apostles called other men, like Abraham "Father", he then told me that its ok because Christ said call no men on "earth" (living not dead) "Father"! LOL! Calling dead men "Father" in a spiritual sense and your own dad "Father" is o.k! I then ask him how he got that ridiculous interpretation on the word "earth" in this passage. He told me that Jesus told him face to face! LOL! Of course he wanted me to believe his private revelation. He had a secret connection with Jesus you know! Steven, I have debated Protestants several times, even before I became Orthodox (I was a long time defending unprotestant doctrines when I was "Protestant"; I finally decided to convert when I couldn't stand being in a Pentecostal Church any longer) and I have heard the most ridiculous answers from some Protestants. I sat in my desk and laugh for a good five minutes before I started typing a response. In IC.XC, Ramon

Common sense? Hmmm...you mean like, "personal interpretation"? The thing about common sense is that it isn't "common"! LOL! Exactly. Protestants do not want to admit but they do interpret Scriptures based on there own understanding. Why is it that most Protestants interpret Jesus words at the Last Supper figuratively, but at the same take all the ages of the old Saints (like Adam who lived 930 years) literally? Most Protestants believe God created everything in a literal 6 days, with a literal 24 hours time period (even though Scriptures doesn't say that). Fundamentalists interpret everything literally, but when it suits there need, they interpret it spiritually. All the texts they interpret literally could be interpreted spiritually and all the texts they interpret spiritually could be interpreted literally. The exegesis of a specific Scripture text is based on person's method. Scriptures doesn't tell you to take a Scripture literally or figuratively. You can't read scriptures objectively! You have to used a method, and most Protestant use the above method to interpret Scriptures. Its called "Private Interpretation"! People interpret Scriptures, and Protestants interpret Scriptures based on there specific Protestant tradition. In IC.XC, Ramon

Those Protestants who are Anti-Catholic (because not all are) don't even know their own church? They don't know the history of their church, they almost always reject the founders of their religions and they almost always have "issues" with their own churches. Most modern Protestants don't even know why they "are" Protestants. They don't know what it means to be a "protestant" Christian. They have no idea (and their pastors aren't telling them either).
