Are all Bible verses equally important? Is there a "hierarchy" of importance in scripture? Are certain verses "weightier" than others?

Are all Bible verses equally important? Is there a "hierarchy" of importance in scripture? Are certain verses "weightier" than others? All Scriptures are God-Inspired, but from a Orthodox point of view, The Church gives the highest honor to the four Gospels, followed by the Acts of the Apostles and the Epistles, or Letters of the Apostles. These are read as part of every Divine Liturgy and are often part of daily prayer. The Old Testament is also honored and read during other services like Matins and Vespers, and of course many, if not most, of our prayers come directly from Psalms and the rest of the Old Testament. While the Old Testament is Holy Scriptures, and we certainty employ the OT (including the Deuterocanonical Books) in our services, we place more emphasis in the Holy Gospels. Finally, certain OT passages deal primary with the OT Covenant, and as no bearing in the New Testament, or the New Covenant. Is this what you mean? In IC.XC, Ramon

Ok, so who told you all to honor certain books of the Bible over others? Are certain books or verses more authoritative than others?
If Jesus said that we are supposed to practice and teach the commandments (of the Old Testament) then why say that the OT has no "bearing" on the New Testament?
If the whole Bible is the Word of God, how could some verses be more important than others? Why do some people pick a few verses that they consider extremely important, and focus on those and take them literally and demand that others interpret them the same way, but then basically ignore other verses that they don't like or don't understand? It seems like some people believe that certain parts of the Bible are MORE "God's Word" than other parts of the Bible.

Ok, so who told you all to honor certain books of the Bible over others? The Church. Are certain books or verses more authoritative than others? No. Some Orthodox Scholars consider the Deuterocanonical books as having lesser authority than the rest of the Holy Bible though. If Jesus said that we are supposed to practice and teach the commandments (of the Old Testament) then why say that the OT has no "bearing" on the New Testament? I did not say the Old Testament has no bearing on the New Testament, but that certain passages in the Old Testament deals primary with the Old Covenant (for example Sabbath observance) that have become void by the New Testament, New Covenant. If the whole Bible is the Word of God, how could some verses be more important than others? Not verses, but books. Some deal primary with the New Covenant. For example, the Holy Gospels is the essence of the New Convent (which is why they are placed first in the New Testament). Why do some people pick a few verses that they consider extremely important, and focus on those and take them literally and demand that others interpret them the same way, but then basically ignore other verses that they don't like or don't understand? Because they ignore Holy Tradition. They have no Foundation. Because they have no authority to abide by, they can virtually do anything they pleases. In IC.XC, Ramon

Ramon, are you saying you believe that some books of the Bible are less "God's Word" than other books in the Bible?

Ramon, are you saying you believe that some books of the Bible are less "God's Word" than other books in the Bible? No. All Scriptures are God's word (lower case "W"). In IC.XC, Ramon

Are all Bible verses equally important? Is there a "hierarchy" of importance in scripture? Are certain verses "weightier" than others? Hmmm...if The Bible is "The Word of God", was God speaking when Satan spoke in scripture? And, were his words "automatically" true JUSSSSST because their "in" The Bible?
