Recently Pope Benedict gave the O.K. for children to read Harry Potter books. I never knew they were banned by The Catholic Church in the first place. Were they?

I need to correct some info. The pope only said it was O.K. to watch the latest Harry Potter movie he did not say it was O.K. to read the books.

Nice of you to correct yourself Alfie. But, I don't think there'd be a problem with a kid reading a fantasy story like H.Potter.

Why when they are satanic? Harry Potter is satanic? How did you come to that conclusion?

O.k.....Good fantasy series by the way........ In IC.XC, Ramon I have felt tempted to read the books but I would feel guilty. I think that if you are spiritually mature enough to not be misled or inticed by what you read, it should be ok. They seem to me like just stories.

I have felt tempted to read the books but I would feel guilty. I agree with Steven. If you are spiritually mature, then you will not be misled or entice on what you read. There is nothing wrong in reading fantasy books. I am a big fan of the fantasy genre (books, series and movies) (like Eragon, etc). They a just stories (for entertainment). Harry Potter Satantic? Is the Chronicles of Narnia Series (books and movies) Satantic as well? Many Christians promote that series yet condemn the Harry Potter series.....makes no sense. In IC.XC, Ramon

In IC.XC, Ramon The Chronicles of Narnia (believe it or not) is The Protestant answer to Lord of The Rings. The Lord of The Rings was written by Tolkien (a devout Catholic) who came upon the idea while sitting in a foxhole during WWII (or WWI). If you look at the story, you'll see that it's based upon the concept of Christianity and is structured on The Church (The Elves represent angels, The Wizards/Priests, Frodo is the Christ-like figure who suffers and carries the world's salvation in the Ring to destroy, There is Saruman/Satan with his minions (the Orks and the evil Wizards), etc...). Another very Christian Movie is Superman Returns. You'll note how it's loaded with Christian symbols (like Superman, the "son" being sent to earth to save man, the constant "the son becomes the father and the father becomes the son" references, Superman hears peoples' cries out to him [prayers] and he answers them, he carries the weight and responsibility of the world on his shoulders, etc...).

What about The Matrix? At my college(which was very conservative/evangelical) the president gave a "sermon" about that movie and then had it shown on campus on a huge screen and told everyone they should see it because of its Christian message. I still haven't seen it though. (I was too busy doing homework then) yeah right

The Matrix is a very "anti-religion" movie. To me, The Matrix as about mind control and manufactured states of being. Creating clones to feed off of.
But a movie like "The Chronicles of Riddick" is downright Anti-Christian!
Time and time again, it attacks religion and especially Christianity mocking the Trinity.

Really? Maybe that's why that president resigned. Too many parents/donors complained?
They also had a "gluttony day" there, which I didn't go to, but I heard it was a bunch of eating contests and things like that. For some strange reason, on that very day, the president of the college sat down right beside me at lunch in the cafeteria. So, I asked him (in the sweetest possible voice) how such an event should be held at a Christian college. I have no idea what he said, but I remember that he seemed embarrassed that I asked him that. Oh well
