Maybe it's me but all I'm seeing right now is a smilie face. That would be an interesting purgatory. Being a smilie face on a thread here. Just hanging around for years............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... I think I would crack.

hiya Catholics----------------- explain purgatory please much love--------------knuckle Purgatory. Basically, because no man is worthy of heaven that dies with sin, we are all purified of our sin according to our works (Revelation 2&3). Even the "saved" have to be judged "after" their saved. Unless one dies in a perfect state of grace (that means absolutely sinless), they all go to Purgatory. That's the short version of it.

Hell is for those with Mortal sin and no repentence in their hearts. You have to reject God and His love and mercy to end up there. As to what it's like you kind of run the gambit, from the lake of fire to the Greek Comedy of ironic torture that the devil has in mind for those who inhabit hell, to the Absolute absence of God and His love. This last one is the worst loss in hell. God is not present there.

Your comment implies that saved people are to be judged and then punished for their sins which ain't so, rather they are judged in order to see what rewards they will inherit in heaven.

I think it's considered "separation from God". That alone is enough in my book (personally speaking). A state "without" God is hell. I believe only Jesus went to hell and came back. I don't know how anyone could describe hell really since no one's been there. Maybe some have seen visions, but who's been "to" hell and back and described it?

Purgatory. Even the "saved" have to be judged "after" their saved. Your comment implies that saved people are to be judged and then punished for their sins which ain't so, rather they are judged in order to see what rewards they will inherit in heaven. Rev 2&3 state that some that are saved are judged and not allowed into heaven. So does Matthew 7. The Bible is full of "saved" persons "not" inheriting the kingdom. To be saved (Biblically speaking) is to be delivered from original sin. After that, one must "work out" their salvation.

I believe Jesus is the son of God, that he died for my sins (and forgave those sins) on a cross, rose from the dead and because of that ...I am saved. There are over 100 passages in the New Testament that state we are saved by faith... not by works.

It doesn't matter how many you think you have. The bible cannot contradict itself in any aspect. The works mentioned in Romans are the levitical law, not the works you're implying.
Still how would your proofs be able to answer Cepha's comments?

There are over 100 passages in the New Testament that state we are saved by faith... not by works. No one ever said anybody was saved by works. Did they? But...the Bible states clearly, that faith "without" works is dead. Therefore, a person cannot be saved by faith alone. No where in The Bible does it state that you are saved by faith alone, does it? So, without works, all your faith is useless. Jesus said it Himself. And it only took "one" verse from Him... Here, "faith"ful Christians are condemned to hell for their lack of works (despite all of their dead "faith"); Matthew 25 32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

"When a protestant uses the term saved it means he has the assurance he will go to heaven."
Not true. . It just means that they have accepted God into their hearts and lives and are walking on the ROAD to salvation. Doesn't mean he's guaranteed it.

well, it all depends on which kind of "protestant" you ask... which is why i have such an issue w/ everyone on this board who is not a protestant lumping everyone into one category. I can speak from what I know and have lived so each time y'all do that, I have to give my point of view which shows otherwise.. lol

Trust me, we know that all prots are different, and i think that is why we have such a hard time understanding how each Protestant thinks "they" are right. We dont lump all into one in yalls beliefs, we just lump all prots into one saying they are not the Universal Church.
