Are you familiar with the Catholic teachings about vocations? Your vocation is then to be a wife (which is just as important as being a nun). We all have our place(s). LOL! My girlfriend is Orthodox! She was a lapsed Orthodox until we started talking about religion now she's studying up on her faith again...if just to try to prove me wrong! LOL! Actually, I love The Orthodox. Don't worry about trying to change him. In The Church's eyes, he's just as Catholic as we are (if imperfectly united with us). They have a valid Eucharist, Priesthood and are Apostolic Succession. If I wasn't Catholic, I'd definately be Orthodox. Love them! Precious ages! Mine are 14 & 16. I miss when they were little. It wouldn't matter whether they were baptized in your Church or his. Both would be valid baptisms and your kids could literally grow up in both of the Churches. We can (in extreme circumstances) exchange Sacraments. If I was dieing and there wasn't a Catholic Priest around, I could call for an Orthodox Priest. He can hear my confession and offer me absolution. We can also receive communion at each other's Churches. Yeah...but as I said, I have to marry my girlfriend first, because after I'm a Deacon, I cannot get married. Then hopefully she'll die before me and I could go on to become a Priest! LOL! Jussssst kidding!

Cephas, you are almost right, but I think you need to research more.
Orthodox are welcome to receive communion from Catholic church, but they aren't allowed to(unless they just don't know theyr'e not allowed and do it anyway)
We are not welcome to receive communion at an Orthodox church unless we are Chrismated. We had an Orthodox priest over for lunch and he said that he considers Catholics like "cousins" (as opposed to brothers) Whereas Catholics consider Orthodox brothers.
Maybe you are confusing the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches where of course we can receive communion.
I don't have a problem with my husband being orthodox, we are more united in our faith now than when we were both protestant. But it would certainly be nice to go to the same church. Teresa

Teresa Well, what I've learned is that we are allowed to interchange our Sacraments under extreme circumstances (for example, it I'm in a a town without a Catholic Church, I can attend one of their services and receive communion from one of their Priests and that that Host will be a valid communion). And yes, I definately have to do more research on the subject because I find the beauty of The Faith (Orthodox) to be worthy of study. Plus, I definately don't want to misrepresent Orthodox beliefs. But I'm pretty sure that if I have permission from their local Church, I can attend and participate in their services. I'll look into it.

Yes, but I don't think they will give you permission. sorry But, if you like the Orthodox church, you can have the best of both worlds in the Byzantine Catholic church. It's an Eastern Rite Catholic Church and everthing (the liturgy, Icons, etc.)is the same as Orthodox but they are in communion w/Pope. (also it's usually in english with maybe a little greek as opposed to greek orthodox churches where its greek with a little english) There is one in my town and I love it and wanted to join the Church as an Eastern Rite Catholic, the only reason I didn't is because we no longer have a car and someone gives me a ride to my current (latin rite) church. www.byzcath.org/Peace Teresa

If so, why is that?-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by Michelle Arnold : Jun 18, '07 at 2:14 pm. Canon law holds though that:If a Catholic is in a situation in which he cannot approach a Catholic priest for the sacraments, he may receive confession, Eucharist, and the anointing of the sick from a non-Catholic priest in whose church those sacraments are valid, which includes the Orthodox churches.__________________ So it is acceptable for us to receive The Sacraments from an Orthodox Church that would allow it. I'm trying to get the Orthodox opinion on it (if they would allow it or if they have an official teaching that forbids it). I would imagine that if The Catholic Church allows it, there must be some precedence for it.

, See? That's just plain retarded. I love it when a person shares the beautiful things of their faith with me. Whether I disagree or not, I can always appreciate truth and beauty in any faith outside of my own. That's what I would love to flourish here. Different faiths sharing the good and undeniably true things. Thanks! ;D (I think? LOL! )

Well, it seems that I got banned from another Anti-Catholic Forum.
I didn't see it as Anti-Catholic, but it seems that the AC's there started to complain too much about me because I kept PWNING them theologically and they couldn't handle it anymore.
Here: www.facebook.com/board.php?uid=32799979557#!/board.php?uid=32799979557 So, I got banned and of course, my perfectly appropriate threads/posts got deleted.
But that's okay...because "there's no place like Rome!"And for those that got me banned, let's face it... ;D

Steven,
You sure have a legacy of getting banned in blog/forums! LOL!
Anyway, I regularly contribute to Christianet. The people who blog there are mostly Protestant (thank goodness that there 1 other Orthodox and 1 other Catholic). If you want to stop by (your wisdom will benefit the site, since many are Anti-Catholics) please do. You won't get banned, but if Moderators feel your post breaks the rules, then they will not post them.
This is me if you are wondering---->http://christianblogs.christianet.com/cgi-bin/christianblogs.cgi?q=1282682632215178&mode=viewmember&name=Ignatius
