The word "catholic" literally means "universal".
Jesus says He came for all mankind.
The word "all" is synonymous for "universal".
Therefore, Jesus came universally for mankind (or "catholically").
Where ever you see the word "universal" in The Holy Bible, if you were reading it in Greek, it would say "katolicos".

Just like the word "pope". People say the word "pope" isn't in the Bible...but God is called "Pope". If you ever read the Bible in Greek, where ever you'll see the word "father", it would say "pope". So the word "pope" is in the Bible thousands of times (in the Christian usage of the word, it represents the head of the household on earth...the father, the "man" of the house physically).

If you read that word in Greek when Paul spoke about his leadership, he said he was their "father" spiritually and often referred to his followers as his children. He (in Greek) said he was their "pope". It's not a 20th century word. It wasn't invented in Rome. If Jesus spoke in Greek (which He had to know because He studied the Scriptures and the Scriptures were written in Greek since 200-300 years "before" His birth), He would've called His Father His Pope.

Am I saying that Jesus belongs to The Catholic Church? No.

We belong to Him (as do all Christians who are Believers in Christ...not neccessarily in The Church).

But Jesus "is" a catholic leader...He is the universal leader of all Christians.

See? I wasn't trying to be arrogant in trying to claim Jesus as "ours", but was trying to show what words really mean because there is so much confusion with regards to words.

For example (which is the point of this thread), The Catholic Church is called really "The Universal Church". Because it is a Christian Church, it is known as "The Universal Church of Christ".

It's not excluding anybody else from the Body of Christ in anyway. It's title is all inclusive.

The very definition of the word "catholic" when referred to The Church is the entire of body of Christians because before we are Catholics or Protestants, we have to be Christians first.

Certainly...In the aforementioned Bible class, we were informed that we (evangelical Protestants) are part of the catholic (small "c") church. We thought that was pretty funny, but we got the point. Who can deny the fact of the universal church? Sounds so...all-inclusive. But "church" has to mean something...and "Christian" has to mean something...and "truth" has to mean something...aye, therein lies the rub.

OK, so that's your first sign that the information you're getting can't be trusted as "nuetral".

The Church wasn't called "a" universal church, but "The" Universal Church and this by one of the students of The Apostles themselves.

This is secular history speaking, not a theory, but actual documented facts from undeniable sources which makes a strong case for a Christian being able to accept this as something that can be trusted.

I strongly suggest that you do your own research without the "guidance/misguidance" of men.

Read the Bible then work your way back historically.

First place to start? The History of The Bible itself (you want to be sure that you have the right one).

Without the tints or pruning of specific denominations, you can decide for yourself (with the guidance of The Holy Spirit) as to what history really is.

Now, you said God led you to where you are? Ok, I can accept that. If that's the truth, then you should be able to explain your faith without the aids of man made doctrines.

I believe God places people where they can best serve Him. One of my closest friends was a lousy Catholic, but is now a great Protestant. Another was a lousy Protestant, but now is a great Catholic.

It all depends where God wants you.

We thought that was pretty funny, but we got the point. Who can deny the fact of the universal church? Sounds so...all-inclusive. But "church" has to mean something...and "Christian" has to mean something...and "truth" has to mean something...aye, therein lies the rub.

For 2,000 years, The Church that Jesus founded has always meant something.

To this date, it has never been proven faulty doctrinally.
Every Christian belief that has been reavealed to man has been to man through The Universal Church. It was the only Church founded by Christ. All others were founded by men.

And Matthew 7 clearly tells us about what happens when one places their faith in men. Jesus prophesized about how His Church would be attacked and about how some would be led away from The Universal Christian Church into various sects and denominations of His Church. And it happened exactly as He stated it would be.

How could you believe that Jesus wasn't "Universal" Priest when The Bible says he was?

And He was also a Protestant.

My dear sister...Catholicism "isn't" a denomination of Christianity. It literally "is" Christianity. Didn't you know that?

Christian denominations all come from Catholicism. It was the first Christian Church and all other Christian churches either come from Catholicism (universal Christianity) or indirectly from one of the churches that sprang "from" a church that sprang "from" Catholicism.

You are literally using "our" Bible. Our God. Our Jesus. Our doctrines. (except for the ones created by men "after" The Church duringthe 16th century that were never taught by Jesus)

Your particular chuch can be traced back to being created by a human being.
