Those 7 churches were the whole Church?
Come on Cepha! Who wrote revelation? St. John. And He wrote it near the end of His life. Do you really think that those were the only 7 Churches?
Go back and re-read what I wrote.
I clearly stated that there were other Christian sects,
but they were heretical.
Besides, "what" exactly does The Bible actually say literally?
To how many "Churches" did Jesus tell John to give this revelation to?
Not conjecture...show me factually to whom Jesus told John to give these writings to.
If you can find "more" than the 7 that are mentioned in Revelation, then by all means...produce your evidence.
I didn't know it made you mad.
Teresa, you do know that no physical "Church" was built in Rome until we came under Roman protection, right?
The legitimate physical Churches existed only in Asia.
Where did I say that Paul wrote The Book of Revelation?
They all exist now...only now, out of those 7 Churches, there are 1.3 Billion adherents with Churches all over the world. Those physical Churches were the roots for what was to come to Rome physically.
Just as The Upper Room on The Day of Pentecost was the root for how the 7 Churches came to be.
If Vatican City was nuked, would that be the end of The Catholic Church?
Read the text of The Book of Revelation...show me where it states that they were sent anywhere else "but" the 7 Churches mentioned?
And, if there was a Church in Rome at that time, their not receiving The Book of Revelation would mean that they were excluded. But, since there was no physical Church in Rome at the time that Revelation was written, it's impossible for it to be excluded.
Peter was in Rome, but not "Saint Peter's Basilica".
You need to understand that by the time Revelation was written, most Christians were no longer Jewish, but Gentiles. And, because they were being persecuted by The Romans and The Jews, they had to flee Jeruselum. Those who spoke out were martyred (God rest their souls).
This in no way detracts from Peter's work in Rome.
It in no way takes away from The Church's claims.
If we go only by The Bible, it is clear that at the time Revelation was written, the only Churches in existance that were worthy of receiving these books were the 7 mentioned. If any other Churches existed that were worthy, they would've been mentioned (and they weren't).
These were the only legitimate Churches at the time. This doesn't mean that from then until eternity they would be the only legitimate Churches...it just means that at the time of the writing of Revelation, they were the only ones worthy of receiving the Book of Revelation.
There was no physical Church in Rome. There was a "movement", there was preaching and evangelization, but we didn't have Vatican City there.
If you really want to get "literal" about the origin of Christianity, then you have to go back to the Day of Pentecost in the room in Jeruselum.
That is where The Catholic Church was started literally.
For 400 years afterward, she had to bounce around from place to place because of the persecutions. She couldn't settle down anywhere until the persecutions ceased.
Those 7 Churches Christians were run out in the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne.
It wasn't their geographical locations that made them the true Churches (the 7), it was their loyalty and their bodies and their structure. These were the Churches chosen by Jesus Christ to have Revelation revealed to (even if they weren't perfect).
Question:
Where was Peter when John wrote this book?
He was buried in the ground...dead.
Who was in charge?
Linus.
What was the address of The Church that Pope Linus was in charge of?
Do you believe that there was a physical Church in Rome with an altar and candles and a big sign that said "Saint Peter's"?
The Church was in Rome as the human Church, but there was no phsyical institution there. That wouldn't happen again until "after" the persecutions ceased.
Of course however, you can prove me wrong by providing some evidence that there was a phsyical Catholic Church in Rome at the time that John was written (which would then exclude if from Revelations and prove that it was not worthy of the reception of these works by The Apostle John).
;D
