Cepha, you are right and sooo wrong at the same time. Honey, people went out and bought homes they could not afford, banks new they could not afford them and they loaned them the money anyway. These people still had jobs,, they just could not afford their house notes when the interest rates wentup! How much of a percentage of people lost their homes this way?

i have not looked it up, but i know this is the reason we went over this in my college high level accounting class. This was a banking fraud deal, along with people buying homes they could not afford!

I don't have the numbers either, but from what I saw, as people began losing their jobs, they began losing their homes. If you have a job, you could afford to pay your mortgage. But you can't pay a mortgage no matter how high it is, if you don't have a job.

No, cepha, lets look at it like this.. you buy a house for 150,000 and your morgage note is 900/mth with interest included. Then the Bank all of a sudden raises the interest on your loan and all of a sudden your note is 1300/mth or so. Now you cant afford your home. While this is happening, your property is not even worth what they are expecting you to pay for it because the property value is dropping. This is exactly what has been happening.

www.recovery.gov/Well i thought this was a good website, heard about it on tv, but they really do not say exactly where the money is going. "Where" the money goes is bound to change based on "need". For example, if we have another Katrina, I'm sure they might tap the Stimulus money to ease a crisis like that. But it is good that for the first time, we will be able to see "where" our money is going.

Yeah, but I bet there were Repubs who didn't read it either who didn't vote for it. But what I think is that you mean that they didn't vote for the latest version of the bill. They've all had the main bill for months. The original bill was good, but the LWN's (Left Wing Nutjobs) loaded it up with a lot of stupid things...But President Obama told them to take it out. He was livid with them.

You do realize "why" this happened, right? Deregulation. This is what allowed the homeowners to get ripped off by the mortgage companies with fraudulent loans. And kudos little sister..."that's" how you prove something. Well done...you get some sources and documentation and post it.

I like the cowboy hat!
Tax cuts will work wonders!
He did not need to go and spend all this trillion dollar package though. Really its just spending money to hope that it works, if it doesnt we are in some $hit. And my son will be paying for this spending bill! Taxes will have to be raised in order to pay for it somehow.

So, you think you're son "isn't" going to be paying for the trillion dollar deficit that Bush put us in? You mean you're going to just skip over Bush's deficit? And, the bill will pay for itself CC. The money is going for jobs, right? This money will be used by workers to buy things, right? This will produce more jobs because more people will be buying things and will be needing more services, right? The difference between President Obama's plan and what Republicans want is that they believe that if you give money to entities who's sole purpose is to make a profit, they will give it back to the community. But Democrats believe that if you give the money "back" to the people (after all, it is their money), they will spend it on goods and services (where's businesses will just keep it). That's why Republicans agreed to give hundreds of billions to Wall Street, but refused to help out blue collar workers in Detroit. They only look out for big business (they always have...their "anti-union", anti-blue collar worker, anti-working man).

well cepha, when we are allready sitting on a trillion dollar deficit...do you think we really need to add another on top of that? And how long did it take for our deficit to get to what it was? And look at how fast obama just doubled it. I dont think we needed this much of a spending package. Really dont agree with it. But we will see, if it works great, if it does not we are in big big trouble.

Do you have any clue of how many layoff are in my area...people are in fear of losing their jobs. Its insane. Gas prices are rising...yet oil prices are not! He is taxing companies like exxon and mobile and we are having to pay for it. Ciggarette prices jumped a dollar this month, taxed to pay for the SCHIP program, im waiting for the government to tax alcohol.
I dunno but in my area with is mostly refineries, are having lots of layoffs, so around here people are not so happy.

You didn't seem to concerned with it when Bush was President a couple of months ago, remember? That's when it started...years ago. Actually, you got that backwards...we give them BILLIONS of dollars in "tax breaks". We give THEM money. Again, Bush did this for his big oil buddies. President Obama is working to get that money back into the hands of the people who created that wealth...the working class American. C Well, since The American Taxpayer is the number one caretaker of people who get cancer from smoking, we should be getting some of that money back from the people who are costing our economy so much money in medical care. Well, those people need to do like the Indians from India and the Africans and the Asians who come here, get and education and get a different job. It's not the Government's job to guarantee everybody a job. This is after all (according to Republicans) a "free market economy" and you can blame them for shipping all those American jobs overseas with their deregulation. You're mad at the wrong person. President Obama just got her about 78 days ago. These problems didn't just appear...they've been here now for a good 8 years.

Do you have any clue of how many layoff are in my area...people are in fear of losing their jobs. Its insane. Sorry about the layoffs around there, but there's plenty of work here in New York and in Wyoming and it's picking up in certain areas, but as far as manufacturing jobs? Well, you have to blame the Administration that allowed deregulation and allowed American companies to operate in 3rd world countries. President Obama has already established job retraining (something the Republicans have always been against) and substantial college grants for unemployed workers (again, something Republicans have always been against). Plus, he's cleaning up the banking system that Bush left us with and he just alloted Trillions of dollars to keep homeowners from losing their homes. Give the man a chance to do his job. It took us 8 years to get into this mess...it isn't going to be cleared up in 8 weeks.
