My Granddad (my Grand mom passed away 2 years ago) (from my Father side) lives in DR (Bani, Dominican Republic) in a big house with a maid. I never been there personaly, but my Father is always going there (to preach) so he send pictures back. So beautiful over there! It's paradise! I am thinking of going soon. I know my Golden Retriever will have a blast running in a open space my Granddad has! ;D I have my own car other there! Once I retried, off to DR! LOL Were you born in PR? If not, do you visit often? Hehe, a long time ago I had a really good puerto rican friend and he used to constantly trick me by telling me different things people did there. Some of them were true, and some not so half the time I never knew whether to believe him. Please, set the record straight for me. Do most people in Puerto Rico really take 2-3 showers a day? All these years I've been wondering. LOL

Heather, it's possible. I visited Costa Rica and they were obsessed with cleanliness.

That's neat, do you have family in PR? Most of my family is in Puerto Rico, Milwaukee, Wisconson and Orlando FLA. My dream is to buy a Hacienda out there (a ranch) with at least 100 acres around me that I can do some farming on when I'm older and I might even have a horse or two when I retire. ;D

"What nationality(ies) are you?" Em? Marc? Joey? Etc...?

And, here's something you might not know...most homes don't have "hot" water! Why? Because the water comes out of the faucets luke warm anyway. ;D

Heather, it's possible. I visited Costa Rica and they were obsessed with cleanliness. PR is like that. The women are always sweeping or cleaning. Nobody has carpeting in Puerto Rico (mostly tile flooring) because in the summers, it rains a lot. Plus, tile keeps the house cooler. My mom is definitely like that. I can't leave a cup on the coffee table when I'm watching TV even if I don't get up. She let's me have up to one commercial then she tells me to take the cup into the sink and wash it! LOL! I'm 220lbs at 5'9" and she's 5'2 at about 115lbs and I'm still like a little boy in her house! LOL!

Lol Steven. I noticed most of the floors in CR were tile as well, and a lot of bars around property, on window etc. My mom lived there for a couple of years in her early 20s, she said it was one of the safest places to live...no so now. It's sad, is PR like that as well? I am mostly Dutch, German, and Italian. Basically, your average American mutt And I like living in NE Ohio: it's a pretty safe area, most of hubby's family is here, the weather is nice....nothing special, but I like it I like it much better than DC.

Emily, thanks. How did you like Costa Rica? I would love to go there. I have only gone to Mexico and Turkey.
Which is also, (Marcie) the only time I've been to Texas. We were in some little city there for a while until we got a van to drive into Mexico. For some reason I was not expecting there to be Palm Trees, but It was really cool.
I am obsessed with cleanliness too. I never realize it until I go to a "normal" persons house and see that they are not like me. I tell myself I should clean less, but then as soon as I get home I start cleaning! The weird thing is I HATE cleaning, I mean the process, but I love the feeling of having everything clean. If I ever lived in a situation where we had expendable income, the very first thing I would do would be get a maid!
I also HATE, HATE, HATE carpet, and for the life of me cannot understand why Americans are so obsessed with it. As soon as we moved into this house, the first thing I did was started ripping up all the carpet. (Turks and Iranians have it the right way--hardwood floor/tile and then you have a big beautiful rug that you can pick up and clean!)
OK, so I'm Italian, Czech, Irish and German. Me and my brother are convinced we have Hebrew blood in us, but we can't prove that one.
peace

Heather- Costa Rica was bbbeeeeaaauuuutttiiiiffffuuuullll!!!!!!! I wouldn't want to live there because of the crime rate, but it is so pretty!! That flowers are just breath-taking!!!
I'm not fond of carpet either. About 1/2 of my house is carpeted.
Off-white carpet + two dogs = not so fun!!!!!!

No doubt! Can you imagine what 3 preschoolers would do to that carpet too?
Actually, I do have a huge fluffy white rug, but the whole reason I got a white rug was so that I could bleach out all the stains! It works really well too on this rug. But off-white doesn't bleach so well--you just end up with a bunch a white spots everywhere.
what kind of dogs do you have?

After our youngest is potty-trained we are going to get it cleaned somehow. Urg! I soo want to see a picture of your two Labs! I have a 8 month old Golden Retriever and he is the love of my life! LOL! I am clean-freak as well. I have to be. My Golden shed so much hair you can't even believe it! I have to pass my "Swiffer" close to 10 times a day just to have a "almost" hair free house. I think he is shedding more because the summer is here so his winter coat is falling off. Yea, having carpets with dogs=no fun. I can never have carpets (I don't know how you handle it Emily). My dog's hair will be all over the place and plus he will try to chew if off! LOL! Good luck with potty training. My Golden took about 3 months to be potty train. Urg! The pain it was! I went down 7-8 times a day. Now he got it! He goes only three times a day. He can hold his stuff for 10 hours though! Lucky me! ;D In IC.XC, Ramon

Is it true that PR is getting dangerous (with high crime rate)? I was told that PR is not as safe as it used to be.......but then again, there is no "safe place" nowadays...... In IC.XC, Ramon
