Why are some Americans America worshippers? They worship the flag, they recite a creed, they honor the country. Can this be considered "worship" (having an inordinate amount of love for something other than God)? I'd say that "purer" folks don't worship America as much because they have an identity where as these America worshippers come from diverse backgrounds (usually, strong mixes of European and Eurasian ethnicities). Since they can't pick one of their backgrounds to celebrate, they create a new identitity....Americanists (not as a citizen, but as some sort of "group" with it's own music, culture, religion, etc...). They call it "Americana". And anybody that doesn't come from their ethnic background, cannot (in their sick minds) be "real Americans". What do you guys think? Is soooooo much worship of America unhealthy for Christians? Can we put our hands over our hearts and stand up and praise a "flag"? Doesn't this go against Christianity itself?

Not sure "who" americanas are.... But what is wrong with putting your hand over your heart when saying the National Anthem? And its not the "flag" that we worship,if that is what you want to call it, it is us remembering what our country went through to have a FREE AMERICA. All the men lost in war to have what we have today.
No this does not go against Christianity. Its called being a loving american.

Not sure "who" americanas are.... But what is wrong with putting your hand over your heart when saying the National Anthem? According to "most" Americans, that is considered "idolatry". It is as bad as us doing the sign of The Cross when we genuflect. But, according to "some" Americans, whenever you stand up to show honor to and idol (like the flag) that's idolatry. Well, I guess that depends on who you ask. See, for "them", it's ok to say a creed (The Pledge of Allegiance) to an idol (The American Flag) and to pledge your allegiance to a piece of cloth and to sing to it and to stand up when it waves, but it's wrong to do that for God.

My favorite part of the pledge is the word "indivisible".
Can you imagine if Christians had the same passion for the Church as they do for the flag and the USA--to keep it "indivisible"?
The southern rebels during the Civil War tried to divide the country, but failed thank goodness.

The southern rebels during the Civil War tried to divide the country, but failed thank goodness. Uh, we actually "do" have something like that! 1 Corinthians 12 21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. ;D

So why does everyone have such a hard time getting past...the past. All the racism and segregation...it does not exist anymore unless it is done by its own people.

Well, I know we (minorities) are complaining about the present. Take that example where that Black College Professor was arrested just because he requested the I.D. of the cop who responded to a call about someone breaking into his house. That was totally wrong (so much so, that they dropped the charges within 24 hours because they legally had no cause). As far as racism no existing anymore, I expect that mentality from someone who lives in a town that is 93% "one" race. You are clueless Marcie if you truly believe that racism doesn't exist anymore.

So was the neighbor who called the police also a racist? What if Gates had turned out to be a burglar? This is why we have racial profiling because the majority of crime like murders and burglary are committed by blacks. Last year 67% of all murders were committed by blacks. It was the policeman who asked Gates for his ID and he refused and became rowdy. A couple of weeks ago I accidently set off my security alarm and the police came to my house and asked me all kind of questions before they would leave. If it had been a black policeman who confronted Gates and this happened would it have made national news? Bill Cosby criticized Obama for his comment about the police being stupid and racist. It's also been pointed out that it was probably an ego thing with Gates. He became irate because the policeman didn't know who he was.

Written by an Australian Dentist
To Kill an American
You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.
So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)
'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.
An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.
An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.
An American is also free to believe in no religion..... For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.
An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.......
When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!
As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan .
The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America
Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.
So you can try to kill an American if you must.. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

First of all im not clueless! I prolly live in the most racist area in the us. I know! Not my city, but ones around. I do know that it still exists,BUT alot of it is african americans not liking the white people. I see it all the time! But the segragation part is done soley by its own group, not forced.

No. In fact, on the tapes, she even stated that she wasn't sure if they were burglars or actually homeowners and never mentioned race (though she did mention ethnicity thinking one of them could've been Hispanic which isn't a race). She stated that they could've lived there and couldn't say for sure that they were not the homeowners. Then, if the cops would've caught him, they would've arrested him. Where did you get this statistic from? I believe it. When people are racially oppressed, they are definitely more likely to be violent. But as far as racial profiling goes, that is wrong. For example, I'd say almost 100% of American Terrorists are white. Are whites racially profiled in the war on terror when it comes to terrorism at home? When Timothy McVey bombed that federal building, were whites profiled? No. Most racism is caused by whites against minorities. Do the police profile whites as racists? No. Profiling does far more harm than good pitting the people against the police. And that's why cops have a hard time getting cooperation from people of color...because of profiling. Profiling is institutionalized racism. It's literally the ability to legally be susupicious of someone before they are proven guilty due to their race. I was in these projects once and I saw some drug dealers. Not one of their customers were black however. Only white people went there to buy drugs. But when the arrests came down, who do you think got arrested? Actually, Professor Gates gave him his ID and cooperated. When Professor Gates requested the officer's ID, the officer rudely ignored him and turned and walked away. This is why he got upset. By law, the officer was supposed to show him ID (which he didn't until Professor Gates made a big deal about it). The cop then threatened Prof. Gates after he insisted to see the cop's ID. Also, buy Massachusets Constitutional Law, the officer had no legal right to arrest Prof. Gates. This is why they HAD to drop the charges. So, the cop was totally wrong. Did they ask you for proof that you lived there? Probably not as a racial issue, but as an abuse of police power. Whether the cop was black or white, either way, it was wrong to arrest the Professor according to Mass. Const. Law. And? Why does that matter? Because Bill Cosby is black? I'm sure that's what "some" Americans would want to believe, but the fact is, if Professor Gates would've been white, we wouldn't be talking about this at all today, would we? When Prof. Gates lost his temper after the cop disrespected him in his own house, he never said "is this because I'm a Professor?" Nope. He said "is this because I'm black?" He became irate because he was disrespected. Again, if Prof. Gates was white, would we be talking about this today? Not as a racial issue I bet.

That reminds me of when John McCain said: "Today, We Are All Georgians" The only time that I saw Americans together was right after 9/11. Too bad it took Osama Bin Laden to do what we couldn't do ourselves.
