I heard that some wacko was trying to kill obama...not sure if its factual but i dont dought it Just now? Didn't you know that they've been trying to kill him since he began to run for President? That's why he was the most protected Presidential candidate in history and is the most protected President now. They've already foiled several attempts on his life. The RightWingRacistsExtremists have sworn to kill him. You should watch other sources of news than just "Fox". If you did, you'd get an unbiased view of the news. forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/hottopics/msg1018312015253.html

Steven, anymore, education seems to mean squat. Why do you say that Emily? Even if it doesn't improve your career or financial security, it improves your understanding of the world around you. My Dad has a PhD, but only has a part time job that doesn't pay much (except for this summer--he has a good job with FEMA). I know he doesn't regret any of his education though. But there are definitely ways of learning without going to school. For some reasons, Christian Fundamentalists seem to frown upon education. Like The Republicans who make fun of well educated people. That's odd to me how some Americans would look down upon education. That's why other countries are kicking our butts when it comes to educating their people. India produces more Engineers, Doctors and Lawyers than any other country and their a 3rd world country. We're the richest country in the world, but produce substandard graduates in most public schools. Sad. Puerto Rico has a 97% graduation rate from High School and 100% of H.S. grads go on and complete college. That's why The U.S. goes to Puerto Rico to recruit grad from there. They pay for their airfare and set them up in houses in the U.S. because they can't find enough qualified grads here. They do the same in India. They go over there and recruit them. That's why you see all the top jobs in this country going to foreigners. They simply outperform Americans when it comes to Academics. All the CEO's of the countries most successful companies now are foreign born citizens. NASA has a disproportionate percentage of Puerto Ricans in high positions than the general population. We need to start to value education more than being party schools and football universities. We need to focus more on producing academics, not athletes. That's what The President wants to do now. I'm so glad we have a well educated President. ;D

Steven, right now I am just a little bitter. I may be thankful someday I got my BA in speech therapy....just not right now.

I just wish I wasn't so pressured into going. I am really trying to stress to my younger sister (senior in high school this year) that she really does not have to go straight into college, that she can take a year off to work and save up money and decide on what she wants to do.

My Dad has a PhD, but only has a part time job that doesn't pay much (except for this summer--he has a good job with FEMA). I know he doesn't regret any of his education though. But there are definitely ways of learning without going to school. Because it just feels like I have wasted 5 years of my life on secular education. A better understanding of the world around me doesn't help pay the bills, lol. I have a speech impediment that will probably always keep me from either getting a good job or moving up in a job I already have. I'm not trying to sound "oh poor me" here, it's just a fact. Very few stutterers make it into the professional world, and they have to work 10x as hard to get there. Kind of like an African American did back in the day. There's almost no way I can get disability support for my speech...so I'm just kind of stuck. Stuck without a job/means to finances and $29,000 debt in school loans. Yeah, I'm a little bitter, lol. You need to meditate on this. It's a traditional Christian practice where you go to church, sit down and pray and allow God to talk to you to tell you what He wants you to do. He will guide you into what's best for you. Ask your pastor to allow you into the church to pray at your altar (or podium). It's The House of God. There are no secular distractions there and you can commune with God or you can go to the woods (like Jesus did when He went into nature). Separate yourself from mankind and be one with God (this is what Jesus taught). See, churches ARE necessary (that's why Jesus defended The Temple as a sanctuary. It wasn't for God's benefit, but for ours. A place for us to commune with God far from mankind. I hope you find your answer.

I don't really expect anyone to understand. You're young. I understand. Don't feel pressured into knowing what you want to do yet. You need to experience different things to be able to make an informed decision. Just be patient and no matter what you do, do what YOU want to do!

There's also a lot of emotional baggage that goes along with stuttering. Em, many great prophets in scripture had speech impediments! Don't feel bad sweetie.

Who better to teach kids with speech problems than a trained speech therapist? Even if you're not perfect in your own wording, at least you can reach out to them from a unique perspective. You aren't seeing the potential for greatness that you have sweetie!

You are wrong there, we are raised to know that we must get a college education to make it in this world. I come from a Fairly wealthy family...in saying that, i mean that everyone in my family has pretty nice homes and well established careers, a few business owners. So for you to say that Republicans dont respect people with high paying jobs is a bit..."opinionated", not factual.

What I'm saying is nothing new. In an attempt to appeal to uneducated Americans with divisive language, they've used the term "Ivy League" educated as a slur, as if to say that there's something wrong with being highly educated (or at least, educated in The North East).

I probably could be a good SLP if I worked with stutterers. But I have 3 years of college/internship where I would have to work with all kinds of clients. That scares the crap out of me. That and I don't want to waste 3 more years of my life.

Mya i ask you why are you so DIVIDED, everything you talk about is "this group" does this "that group" does this? I hate IT! You cant catagorise everyone in one certain group, we are all individuals with our own raising and opinion.

George Bush...a man who can't even speak English properly. Who did they pick to run for President? John McCain, a man who was 5th from the bottom of his class! LOL! Who did Democrats choose? Ivy League educated men who went to the best colleges in the world (Kerry & Obama). I'm just saying that when I hear hate-filled speeches at Republican rallies, I've often heard them hurl that phrase "Ivy League" educated in a derogatory manner. That is a fact. Annnddd, I didn't hear you crying about division when The Republicans in Texas talk about secceeding from The United States of America! LOL! I didn't hear you complaining about Palin's Seccessionist Husband! Or her speaking at a Seccessionist rally! Or her calling Americans in rural towns "real" Americans, right? And you voted for her! LOL!
