You know what's crazy to me, is that many football teams have huge percentages of African American players, but how many of them have African American football coaches? Racism isn't always blantant, but if you look at overall patterns of things like that, it comes into focus more in my opinion. "Let me guess: You never saw the story. Or if you saw it, you didn't care. Or if you did care, you don't know what can be done about one of the most depressing numbers in major college football.
Four.
That's it. Four African-American head football coaches out of 119 Football Bowl Subdivision programs, the lowest total since 1993 and 2005. It used to be six -- whoo-ee! -- but that was before Washington pink-slipped Tyrone Willingham and Kansas State pulled the rip cord on Ron Prince's purple parachute in recent weeks.
Do the math. Four out of 119 equals 3.36 percent (120 schools were studied, including one transitioning into FBS). That's less than you tip the worst waitress in the world. Now compare that to the other numbers published in a recent study by the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports at the University of Central Florida:
• 54 percent of FBS players are minorities (50 percent of those African-American). Outside The Lines Outside the Lines will take a full look at the issue of black coaches in college football on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN. • 5.04 percent of FBS head coaches are minorities.
• 92.5 percent of FBS university presidents, 87.5 percent of FBS athletic directors and 100 percent of FBS conference commissioners are white.
Nothing changes. The numbers fluctuate slightly from year to year, but the simple, numbing fact remains that African-Americans still can't punch a hole through the turf ceiling. They're good enough to play the game, good enough to become offensive and defensive coordinators (31 of 255), good enough to become assistant coaches (312 of 1,018), but not good enough to become head coaches?
"Give us an opportunity and an open mind," says Turner Gill, the third-year head coach at the University of Buffalo. "That's all we ask." sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3695007&sportCat=ncf

Yep! Sounds like racism to me. There should be more whites playing on these teams. Blacks make up 13% of the population. If you look at the NHL, one team has a black coach and how many blacks play hockey? If you look at the news media 70% of it is made up of Jewish people. If you look at the nursing profession 95% is made up of women. Do me a favor! Get over it!

Yeah, i kinda feel like...its not my problem. Cause, alot of black people get jobs over whites just because the company is scared of a lawsuit. I think hiring should go off of how well you did in school and how much experience you have. It should not be rated upon the color of your skin.

I agree. Everyone should have an equal chance.
But CC, how do you know that companies are "scared of a lawsuit"? Have you seen that firsthand?

Aren't you also going to be paid back because of the way the Spanish treated the Indians? LOL! We lovvvvvvved The Indians! We treated them well. We needed them to mine their Pagan gold for us. We didn't want to kill them. They died because of European disease that we imported to America. Raped? You mean "intermarried". We were not allowed to rape them. That's how the Hispanic culture was born. Out of the intermarriages between the Spaniards and the natives. Right, but this was by marriage (not rape). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MestizoNow the European slave owners? They were rapists. They cheated on their wives with their slave girls and produced the "light skinned" blacks we see today. Most African Americans can be tied directly back to the country's forefathers while most of those who came from immigrant families (like the Polish, the Russians, the Italians, the Germans, etc...) cannot be tied back to the original forefathers of America making African Americans more origianally "American" than the immigrants. Some? It was common practice. As for the Spanish, they actually took natives as their wives and created families (they didn't just rape them and use them). The slave owners kept their white wives and still had their black women on the side. I guess, their wives just weren't "enough" for them and they preferred the company of the colored women more (enough to not give up their heathen ways). But I'm just guessing that from the results. There's even a term for that too...it's called "jungle fever". Alfie, where do you get your statistics from? And, more than 1/2 of the African Americans in this country have white blood in them. With the help of geneticists, the historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr. put African-American ancestry in these terms:58 percent of African Americans have at least 12.5 percent European ancestry (equivalent of one great-grandparent); en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_American#Who_is_African_American.3F

For instance...my best friend is an x-ray tech for a company, she worked with a black woman who, never finished her paperwork, would leave work early so she did not have to take the next call out, would do some really crazy things that anyone should be fired for, BUT when britney went to talk to the boss about it, the boss would not do anything and verbally told her that if she was to fire her, the black woman would raise hell and try to suite her. That is the reality of it, yes it does happen everywhere all the time!

wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_the_Spanish_treat_the_Native_Americansthey treated them badly and they forced them to become roman catholic.... -they were forced to work in mines, ranches + farms -they had to pay taxes (encomiendas) -Bartolome Las Casas(a preist) tried to reform the ways of the spanish conquistadors and colonist ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080903163652AAa8SwqThe Spanish were the worst group of colonials in terms of how they treated the natives. The French got along with them fairly well. The English, and later Americans, had their ups and downs. Disputes that arose usually had to do with the colonists settling in areas the Indians considered their own. But the Spanish embarked on campaigns of systematic extermination and enslavement for financial gain. They murdered millions looking for gold, and forced tens of thousands to work as slaves in their Californian missions and farms. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From what i have found, none of us treated them too well...

Where did you get your myths about nederland being most racist in country. The Nederland High School Football running back is BLACK! HA, real racist. You are a joke! The reason why the blacks dont live here is because of the HIGH property taxes, most cant afford it, or dont want to pay it! From the link I posted. And...Racists are known to "use" blacks when they need them to do something they themselves cannot do (like slavery). And, maybe blacks don't live there because they just don't want to...did you ever think of that? Taxes in Mount Vernon, NY are $15,000. a year. Guess what...it's alllll black. ;D

Cepha, do you go to say China and expect them to know ENGLISH? NO...so why should it be different for anyone coming to America. It is the Primary language in the U.S. When a mexican goes to school, they have to take english classes...not just spanish. Actually, schools in China "do" teach English and it's mandatory... english.peopledaily.com.cn/200311/02/eng20031102_127409.shtmlChinese children nowadays have started to learn English from the third grade in primary school, the time when they still know little about their mother language.
And they'll keep learning English during the whole period of schooling and their English standard may even influence their jobs, promotion as well their lives in the future.
From primary school to graduate school, English is always the must-be-tested subject.
After graduation, English will also be required for employment, promotion and professional evaluations.

Yeah, you would think there would be more, thats the NFL's problem. My belief? There aren't a proportionate amount of coaches in the NFL because they haven't been given the opportunities. There are more blacks as far as players go because blacks have less educational opportunities than whites. This has been a proven fact. It's undeniable. It is the way it is, but President Barack Hussein Obama and Judge Sonia Sotomayor are prime examples that a person of color cannot allow obstacles like racism to stop them. My father came to this country with a 3rd grade education, busted his tail and went on to become a self-made millionaire with several real estate holdings (including 7 apartment buildings, a couple of parking lots, a store, etc...). So for me, there are no excuses...only obstacles. ;D

Yes, port arthur is a multi racial city, used to be mostly white, now mostly african american. You should see what the town looks like....like a dump. Notice where i live the majority is white. I actually grew up in Groves,tx Groves,tx demographics... The racial makeup of the city was 93.46% White, 1.32% African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.65% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.98% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.82% of the population. Now live in Nederland,tx only 10miles away. Nederland,tx... The racial makeup of the city was 93.51% White, 0.89% African American, 0.33% Native American, 2.02% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.01% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.25% of the population. Oooo! Nederland! Named one of the most racist cities in America (along with Vidor)! LOL! What a coincidence! The white population of Nederland is identical to the white population of The Republican Party! The racial makeup of the city was 93.51% White, 0.89% African American, 0.33% Native American, 2.02% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.01% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.25% of the population.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nederland,_Texas 93% of the Republican Party is whiteblogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/08/howard-dean-acc.htmlNowhere in that link says anything about nederland being racist, or vidor. Although VIDOR is a sever racist city... no blacks allowed kinda. Its a country bumkin town.

Jamaicans are great at demo work. It just is what it is. Doesn't mean that a Mexican can't go on to own his own company (tons of them here do). Doesn't mean that a Polish guy can't own his own company either eventually if he works really hard and applies himself.

She said no way! Sure enough, he had the "jungle fever" too. He was intimately involved with the worker. Shoot...I had to fire a white guy because he turned out to be a lazy junkie. He wasn't a junkie and lazy because he was white. He just happened to be white...his laziness and drug habit were his own doing.
